SHE PASSED THIS WAY, by ANNA M. ACKERMANN First Line: She passed this way with torch in hand Last Line: She passed this way? | |||
She passed this way with torch in hand, Her heritage from distant land, With footstep firm, and face aglow To guide the way, long years ago, For those who now are in command. Stone temples on gold pavement stand Instead of tents on shifting sand Because, with radiant light to show, She passed this way. Will they keep faith who guard her brand And vigil through dark night demand? On scions of her race bestow The light undimmed by winds that blow So men through aeons understand She passed this way? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETRAND AND GOURGAUD TALK OVER OLD TIMES by EDGAR LEE MASTERS THE ICE-CREAM SANDWICH by KAREN SWENSON EGOISME A DEUX' by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON WILLIAM AND HELEN by GOTTFRIED AUGUST BURGER FOUR-LEAF CLOVER by ELLA (RHOADS) HIGGINSON STANZAS SELECTED FROM THE PAINS OR MEMORY; A FRAGMENT by BERNARD BARTON MELISSA by ROBERT LOUIS BURGESS THE PASSING OF WOODROW WILSON, PROPHET OF PEACE by VINCENT GODFREY BURNS |
