SPRING IS NOT THE ASH, by MARVIN BARRETT First Line: They held a green unburnt desire Last Line: And in the dream the ash again. | |||
They held a green unburnt desire. They held it long and let it burn. The burn they cast into the fire. They looked and saw an ash to learn. They learned the ash. They set it down And threw the other part away. And when they turned, the ash had blown. The ash had come but not to stay. They brushed the stone. They fired the green, And from the green there rose a flame, And from the flame there was a dream, And in the dream the ash again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A WARRIOR'S PRAYER by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR BLACK SAMSON OF BRANDYWINE by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR LOVE AT SEA by THEOPHILE GAUTIER PRODIGAL by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN NEW YORK CITY by MAXWELL BODENHEIM MOTHER -- 1927 MODEL by BERTON BRALEY MY DOVES by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING OBSERVATIONS IN THE ART OF ENGLISH POESY: 18.
