ONE PASSES BY, by GLENN CLAIRMONTE First Line: The forces that control the paths of storms Last Line: To temper their sublime severity | |||
The forces that control the paths of storms Have taken me and hurled me down the ways Where now, with certainty and least delays, I must translate the purpose that performs The laws of destiny for worlds and men. So I have come tonight to meet your lips And pour ambition to your fingertips That there may be unrest where peace has been. The thing is done in spite of me -- believe This strange deception is not consonant With my compassion for your loyalty. Because I soon must break your heart I grieve As winds and rains might, being impotent To temper their sublime severity | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MARJORIE'S WOOING by EMMA LAZARUS THE FLY by BARNABY (BARNABE) GOOGE NEW FRIENDS AND OLD FRIENDS by JOSEPH PARRY MADLY SINGING IN THE MOUNTAINS by PO CHU-YI LOVE AND TIME by WALTER RALEIGH THE VALLEY by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE SONG, FR.
