SATYRIC LYRIC, by E. B. CROSSWHITE First Line: You say that, by a newer wooer Last Line: Mabel. | |||
You say that, by a newer Wooer, Your heart has been invaded, Raided; Unguessing that my harder Ardor Might possibly have faded, Jaded. Long intervals I've waited, Sated, To (rather than resist you) Tryst you; And, as you termed hot courting Sporting, I've often, to assist you, Kissed you. One knows, apart from college Knowledge, That love is but an able Fable... And so, at this impending Ending I feel entirely stable, Mabel. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CONTRA MORTEM: THE NOTHING I by HAYDEN CARRUTH SONG: WOO'D AND MARRIED AND A' by JOANNA BAILLIE LACK OF STEADFASTNESS; BALLAD by GEOFFREY CHAUCER EPITAPH ON HIMSELF by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE THE CITY OF DREADFUL NIGHT: 21 by JAMES THOMSON (1834-1882) A WINTER PIECE by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH THE DEATH OF HAMPDEN by PAKENHAM THOMAS BEATTY THE WASHER WOMAN'S SONG by WILLIAM BLAKE EPITAPH ON ONE DROWNED IN THE SNOW by WILLIAM BROWNE (1591-1643) |
