TO ONE OUTSIDE, by ALICE BOOTH DAY First Line: I held the frail cup carefully Last Line: I softly closed the door. | |||
I held the frail cup carefully -- My timid soul was bare -- I had distilled so prayerfully The wine I sought to share. Your lips defiled the sacrament; A laugh of evil glee Disfigured every lineament In shocking raillery. You dropped the cup disdainfully And stepped outside. My sore Bewildered heart surged painfully; I softly closed the door. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HIS PRAYER TO BEN JONSON by ROBERT HERRICK THE LAST RESERVATION by WALTER LEARNED SCUM O' THE EARTH' by ROBERT HAVEN SCHAUFFLER THE FISHER'S BOY by HENRY DAVID THOREAU SATIRES: 51.
