TO ONE OUTSIDE, by ALICE BOOTH DAY First Line: I held the frail cup carefully Last Line: I softly closed the door. | |||
I held the frail cup carefully -- My timid soul was bare -- I had distilled so prayerfully The wine I sought to share. Your lips defiled the sacrament; A laugh of evil glee Disfigured every lineament In shocking raillery. You dropped the cup disdainfully And stepped outside. My sore Bewildered heart surged painfully; I softly closed the door. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HEGIRA by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON OWL AGAINST ROBIN by SIDNEY LANIER ECHO by WALTER JOHN DE LA MARE THE MILL by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON TO A FRIEND WHOSE WORK HAS COME TO NOTHING by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS DOOMSDAY: TREASURES IN HEAVEN by WILLIAM ALEXANDER (1567-1640) LONG LIVE LIFE by JACQUES BARON |
