SNOW PATTERN, by EMILY R. DENTON First Line: Out of the dream: wind in the snow all day Last Line: That was so proud. Subject(s): Cold | |||
Out of the dream: wind in the snow all day, Wrapping itself in the snow, tearing it up for a veil to cover it; And at night the sky, and a girl standing, So cold, with a mind to wrap herself as the wind does, Making a warmth at last. But the fingers catch at her, And she, afraid and quivering, turns to the dark house, Where the cold creeps like a little animal with a tail, Gnawing at the baseboards, and the wind is also naked, Having to cover it only the dust and the cobwebs, That was so proud. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ANOTHER LOSS TO STOP FOR by JILL BIALOSKY IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON AT THE DEATH OF A MONGOLIAN PEASANT by NORMAN DUBIE MEISTER ECKHART by NORMAN DUBIE THOMAS MERTON AND THE WINTER MARSH by NORMAN DUBIE COMING SOON by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE SOPHISTICATION by CONRAD AIKEN APPLES OF HESPERIDES by AMY LOWELL THE GARDEN OF LOVE, FR.
