CHORD, by STUART JOHN DYBEK First Line: A man steps out of sunlight, / sunlight that steams like grace Last Line: As it folds into its case. | |||
A man steps out of sunlight, sunlight that streams like grace, still gaping at blue sky staked across the emptiness of space, into a history where shadows assume a human face. A man slips into silence that began as a cry, still trailing music although reduced to the sigh of an accordion as it folds into its case. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COUNTRY SUMMER by LEONIE ADAMS UPON THE SAYING THAT MY VERSES WERE MADE BY ANOTHER by ANNE KILLIGREW TOM DEADLIGHT by HERMAN MELVILLE IN THIS AGE OF HARD TRYING, NONCHALANCE IS GOOD AND by MARIANNE MOORE THE TRIUMPH OF LIFE by PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY THE SWAMP FOX by WILLIAM GILMORE SIMMS FOR THE INAUGURATION OF A PUBLIC SCHOOL, CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY by WALT WHITMAN |
