DESIRE, by LENA MOORE FISHER First Line: Clothed in your robes of brightest gold Last Line: We'll hate you then, desire! Subject(s): Desire | |||
Clothed in your robes of brightest gold Before us all you stand; To those of us who would be strong, You hold an outstretched hand. You beckon toward a roadway wide, A road we all would wend; Beside whose edges flowers grow, And where bright beauties blend. You show us just the upward path That leads to ecstasy; But from the peak it must lead down To direst misery. It is a lovely route you show, It sets our hearts on fire; But when at last we pay the price, We'll hate you then, desire! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AMERICAN WEDDING by ESSEX HEMPHILL HISTORY OF DESIRE by TONY HOAGLAND ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER |
