OLD AGE, by CAROLINE GILMAN Poet's Biography First Line: Why should old age escape unnoticed here Last Line: And earth would lose her stepping-stone to heaven. | |||
WHY should old age escape unnoticed here, That sacred era to reflection dear? That peaceful shore where passion dies away, Like the last wave that ripples o'er the bay? Oh, if old age were cancell'd from our lot, Full soon would man deplore the unhallow'd blot. Life's busy day would want its tranquil even, And earth would lose her stepping-stone to heaven. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CHILD'S WISH IN JUNE by CAROLINE GILMAN THE MOCKING-BIRD IN THE CITY by CAROLINE GILMAN AT THE ZOO IN SPAIN by CLARENCE MAJOR MOTLEY: THE GHOST by WALTER JOHN DE LA MARE WAITING FOR THE GRAPES by WILLIAM MAGINN THE DAY-DREAM: MORAL by ALFRED TENNYSON OSTRA by ELLEN FRANCES BALDWIN SONNETS OF MANHOOD: 35.
