INVESTMENT SECURITY, by F. W. H. First Line: I'd like to have a ticker which would carry Last Line: And save myself some unpropitious starts. Subject(s): Investments; Love; Stocks; Bonds | |||
I'd like to have a ticker which would carry Quotations of my love stock every day, For then I'd know just who and when to marry Dan Cupid's bears and bulls I'd watch at play. If Evelyn Preferred should slump on selling, I'd send around a bunch of orchids quick; If Agnes Common spurted, there's no telling, I might go buy a ring and turn the trick. If dividends were coming via Esther, I'd put myself on record right away; But if a statement showed a bankrupt Hester, I'd sell the poor girl short without delay. Ah, what a comfort I should find this ticker, To guide me in life's stock exchange of hearts! For with its help I'd know just how to pick her, And save myself some unpropitious starts. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HIKING TOWARD LAUGHING GULL POINT by DAVID BOTTOMS THE ANNUITANTS ANSWER by ROBERT CHAMBERS THE PEAU DE CHAGRIN OF STATE STREET by OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES FOOL'S GOLD by HERBERT KAUFMAN JULY IN GEORGY by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON ON THE RECEIPT OF MY MOTHER'S PICTURE [OUT OF NORFOLK] by WILLIAM COWPER IMPRESSION by EDMUND WILLIAM GOSSE THE SEARCH (1) by JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL A SEA-SPELL (FOR A PICTURE) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI THE BIRDS: THE BUILDING OF CLOUDCUCKOOCITY by ARISTOPHANES TO BARON DE STONNE WITH AIKIN'S ESSAYS ON SONG-WRITING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD |
