WHO LOVE AND PART, by HAMLEN HUNT First Line: Who love and part, know parting for a knife Last Line: Atlantis' doom repeated in the heart. Subject(s): Farewell; Love; Time; Parting | |||
Who love and part, know parting for a knife That cleaves the close-wrapt velvet of content, And penetrates the core of cherished life, The single sleep, the double heart's intent, With such malicious and deceiving skill All weapons forged of fever, flame or flood, All things that maim, that crucify or kill Compare as harmless as carved swords of wood. Unalterable Atlantis is no more, Yet, like the deeply drowned, we still must learn, Seeing the wave of time consume the shore, And give the lie to pledges of return, That they who risk division find apart Atlantis' doom repeated in the heart. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE SESTINA: TRAVEL NOTES by WELDON KEES |
