THE PROTECTOR, by IBN SHARAF First Line: Let noble thy protector be Last Line: To fill thy ears, and mouth, and eyes. | |||
Let Noble thy protector be, Then care not what may chance to thee; With him thy breastplate have no fear, Thou art secure from Fortune's spear. He is as lofty as his name, His deeds and titles mean the same; Alike in actions and in speech He has attained fame's highest reach. The Lord, the Glorious, the Free, The Noble: all of these is he, Describing and connoting him, His pleonastic synonym. He ornaments the name of Great Which other men depreciate; The sun has opposite degrees In Libra and in Aries. What lesser rulers make their boast His glory would disfigure most; So slender waists are highly prized, But slender thighs are much despised.
