MOUNTAIN MOMENT, by ALEXANDER KINMAN LAING Poet's Biography First Line: Out across the morning Last Line: Birches in the dawn! Subject(s): Birch Trees; Eyes; Mountains; Nature; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | |||
Out across the morning The air lies blue and silver Over curving valleys, Cupping seas of mist. Day comes bearing banners Over Mount Ascutney. All the trees are music-reeds To whispers of the wind. Wet leaves of the birches Wink and shimmer, framing Half a thousand Danaes In a rain of gold; Half a thousand birch trunks, Swaying maiden-slender Down a curving mountainside That surges like a wave. Look! -- for it is fleeting. Such a moment settles For a moment only, And is quick to die. Eyes, be bright for beauty; Busy brain, remember Shimmering of silver rain -- Birches in the dawn! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN HARBOR (ST.
