THE CHILD'S WISH GRANTED, by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP Poet's Biography First Line: Do you remember, my sweet, absent son Last Line: Has borne you voiceless to your dear blue sky. Variant Title(s): To My Son | |||
Do you remember, my sweet, absent son, How in the soft June days forever done You loved the heavens so warm and clear and high; And, when I lifted you, soft came your cry -- "Put me 'way up, -- 'way, 'way up in blue sky"? I laughed and said I could not, -- set you down, Your gray eyes wonder-filled beneath that crown Of bright hair gladdening me as you raced by. Another Father now, more strong than I, Has borne you voiceless to your dear blue sky. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MARTHY VIRGINIA'S HAND [SEPTEMBER 17, 1862] by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP BRIDE BROOK by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP FAIRHAVEN BAY by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP NIGHT IN NEW YORK by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP REMEMBRANCE by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP SOUTH-WIND by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP THE FLOWN SOUL by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP THE NAME OF WASHINGTON by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP THE VOICE OF THE VOID by GEORGE PARSONS LATHROP TRANSPOSITIONS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON |
