I LOVE ACACIA, by EDITH LOVELL First Line: Once when I was very young Last Line: Akin to youth and my ideal. Subject(s): Acacia; Aging; Trees; Youth | |||
Once when I was very young And still had faith that I could be Like certain dreams to which I clung, An invitation came to me . . . I wore acacia as I stood With other "pledges" in a line And vowed to make my womanhood Into a model strong and fine. But years are fleet and I forget Just what it was I longed to be And though I know I could not fit The pattern that is lost to me -- Acacia still can make me feel Akin to youth and my ideal. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY |
