LANDSMAN'S DREAM, by CHAPMAN JAMES MILLING Poet's Biography First Line: A strip of earth, a patch of sky Last Line: And in my heart a sail? | |||
A strip of earth, a patch of sky, The glory of the sea, A myrtle thicket on the dune, A lone palmetto tree; Beyond the bar a passing sail That travels silently. I dwell where blushing maples burn Beyond the crystal gale; My only gulls are whip-poor-wills, A rock my only whale. Why then are myrtles in my soul, And in my heart a sail? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CROATAN by CHAPMAN JAMES MILLING SONNET IN A CEMETERY by CHAPMAN JAMES MILLING NOT TRANSHISTORICAL DEATH, OR AT LEAST NOT QUITE by HAYDEN CARRUTH PENDULUM by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON A PHONECALL FROM FRANK O'HARA by ANNE WALDMAN COLUMBIAN ODE by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR PATRIOTIC SONG by ERNST MORITZ ARNDT MEDITATIONS IN GREAT BEALINGS CHURCH-YARD by BERNARD BARTON |
