AUTUMN ON THE RIO GRANDE, by KATHERINE NICHOLS OWSLEY First Line: Young cottonwoods, like tall whiplashes Last Line: The song of leaves, like dripping rain. Subject(s): Rio Grande River | |||
Young cottonwoods, like tall whiplashes, With foliage of ochre splashes, Drop slowly their dead leaves, and sway With sadness in the autumn day. While the earth calls its refrain To falling leaves, like dripping rain, The winding river's silver sheen Adorns the valley lands between; And swells the earth song in its strain The song of leaves, like dripping rain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RIO GRANDE VALLEY by ALBERT EDMUND TROMBLY MUSIC ON THE DESERT by KATHERINE NICHOLS OWSLEY SCARS by KATHERINE NICHOLS OWSLEY THE OLD MAN DREAMS by OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES LINES WRITTEN IN AN OVID by MATTHEW PRIOR THE CENCI; A TRAGEDY: ACTS 4-5 by PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY ANDRE by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES EPIGRAM ON JOHN TOOTH by WILLIAM BROWNE (1591-1643) LINES TO A LADY WEEPING by GEORGE GORDON BYRON A CAPTAIN OF THE PRESS-GANG by BLISS CARMAN THE CANTERBURY TALES: PROLOGUE TO SECOND NUN'S TALE by GEOFFREY CHAUCER |
