LIFE'S SONGS, by
First Line: In her youth she wrote of pain
Last Line: Few know her heart is sad.
Subject(s): Grief; Women - Writers; Sorrow; Sadness

In her youth she wrote of pain,
Sorrow, tears, and loss;
What could they have meant to her,
She who knew no cross?

Just a little untried child,
Her poems fragile things
That fluttered with a tremor
Like Spring's first offerings.

Now that she has known of life,
Grief too great to bear,
Suffered anguish in her heart,
None could with her share,

Now she writes of love and joy,
As someone young and glad --
Her eyes are soft with conquered tears;
Few know her heart is sad.
