FETES GALANTES: CYTHERE, by PAUL VERLAINE Poem Explanation Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: By favourable breezes fanned Last Line: The folly of love's sacrifices. | |||
By favourable breezes fanned, A trellised arbour is at hand To shield us from the summer airs; The scent of roses, fainting sweet, Afloat upon the summer heat, Blends with the perfume that she wears. True to the promise her eyes gave, She ventures all, and her mouth rains A dainty fever through my veins; And, Love fulfilling all things, save Hunger, we 'scape, with sweets and ices, The folly of Love's sacrifices. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OH SAD, SAD WAS MY SOUL by PAUL VERLAINE TEARS FALL IN MY HEART by PAUL VERLAINE THE WHITE MOON by PAUL VERLAINE A BAD SLEEPER by PAUL VERLAINE A FORGOTTEN TUNE by PAUL VERLAINE AN EXCHANGE OF FEELINGS by PAUL VERLAINE ANOTHER SONG WITHOUT WORDS by PAUL VERLAINE |
