THEIR LAST STAND, by DONA WAYLAND First Line: Peering tensely with naked curiosity Last Line: Hunted -- they take their last stand. Subject(s): Mustangs | |||
Peering tensely with naked curiosity They wander high among the hills, Mustangs, the last of a race rapidly vanishing ... Clouds blown through the great crossways In endless procession above their heads. Plunderers -- doomed to extinction. Majestic, free they speed over the horizon, Up the dried lava streams, Shadows that travel far Among a duel of opposing forces. Upon the mountain top, Watching the guarded places, Listening to whispers of the forest, Hunted -- they take their last stand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CRATER OF THE MOON (IN IDAHO) by DONA WAYLAND RED SHADOWS, SELECTION by DONA WAYLAND JOY (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON NOBODY'S LOOKIN' BUT DE OWL AND DE MOON (A NEGRO SERENADE) by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON ANTONY AND [OR, TO] CLEOPATRA by WILLIAM HAINES LYTLE ON A GREEK VASE by FRANK DEMPSTER SHERMAN GREAT FRIEND by HENRY DAVID THOREAU |
