THE FOUR BILLS, by AMOS RUSSEL WELLS Poet's Biography First Line: There's bill the first, the presidential bill Last Line: This bill the fourth rules every mother's son! Subject(s): U.s. - Congress | |||
There's Bill the First, the Presidential Bill, Whose large proportions all the country fill, Whose thought molds history in many ways, Whose word a nation -- more or less -- obeys. The second Bill, the sage Congressional Bill, Has larger sway and wields a stouter will. How many times, in many a well-fought field, Must Bill the First to Bill the Second yield! But Bill the Third, the mighty Dollar Bill, Has greater force and influence vaster still. Upon his beck and call the millions wait, In market-places and the halls of state. But Bill the Fourth, the little Dunning Bill, -- Ah, his the final power, the reigning skill! When all the laws are writ, the deeds are done, This Bill the Fourth rules every mother's son! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE FIGHT OVER THE BODY OF KEITT by ANONYMOUS I BESEECH YOU BEFORE WE IMPEACH YOU by R.
