PERMANENCE by DAVID IGNATOW

Poet Analysis

First Line: I AM LEAVING EARTH WITH LITTLE KNOWLDGE OF IT
Last Line: And what does failure mean but to sink below / into the permanence of ocean of our being
Subject(s): TRANSIENCE;

I see a man and woman strolling together
down the street and suddenly ask myself,
Why are they here? Why walking the earth
as if in possession? And I am left
breathing quickly but then diverted
by a car in my path or a woman
whom I know or am attracted to.
Beyond that I will grow old.
