BUT THEN by DAVID IGNATOW

Poet Analysis

First Line: THE ROOSTER CRYING
Last Line: AND HIS FLOCK AWAITS.
Subject(s): ROOSTERS; COCKS;

The rooster crying
as if angry with the light
would prefer
the sun not rise. Cries out
through the dawn but then
resigns himself in silence
in the sun, his work before him,
and his flock awaits.
