OUTLAW by VIRGINIA ABEL

First Line: INTO THE AMBER TWILIGHT
Last Line: SILENCE, DIGNIFIED, LAY.

Into the amber twilight
Fell one fervent note,
Dropped, as dew from a lily,
Out of a pulsing throat.
Shadows, shocked and reproving,
Hushed it softly away;
Once again, like a snowdrift,
Silence, dignified, lay.
