I DEMAND by JAMES R. AGGELES

First Line: I WOULD NOT DECRY THE WISDOM OF A GOD
Last Line: WHEN THE SOUL OF ME IS GOD?
Subject(s): AGING;

I would not decry the wisdom of a God
Nor yet infer that He who planned the whole
Knew not whereof he planned.

But yet I yearn enlightment which to my youth is banned
Wherefore am I of spirit half and half of earth's sod?

I tread with eager ernestness the trail that sages trod
I scale the hoary peaks of age and like a babe I stand
And wait for some all-knowing one to answer my demand
Why am I bound to finite clay.
When the soul of me is God?
