Hark! what is this I hear? A village church bell tolls so clear! Just another soul called from this world of woe, And added to the heavenly list, Where all is joy and Peace and bliss. A vacant chair by the hearth I see, Where once was joy and mystery; An aged form is bending low, With locks of hair as white as snow. An aching heart, a tear-stained face, Tells the tale of that vacant place, But it is not long he'll have to wait, For he, too, will enter the heavenly gate. For Silent death comes fluttering in, An angel whispers and flies away, Leaving behind a lump of clay. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LONDON CHURCHES by RICHARD MONCKTON MILNES WALT WHITMAN by HARRISON SMITH MORRIS MARY'S GIRLHOOD (FOR A PICTURE): 1 by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI CORYDON by LUCIUS MORRIS BEEBE PSALM 2; DONE AUGUST 8, 1653 - TERZETTI by OLD TESTAMENT BIBLE |
