ACHIEVEMENT'S SILVER CRY by MARGARETE ROSE AKIN

First Line: WITHIN MY CASTLED MIND A GLEAMING PAGE UNROLLS
Last Line: ACHIEVEMENT'S SILVER CRY VIBRATES MY TONGUE, MY THROAT.

Within my castled mind a gleaming page unrolls.
Success is written large within its curling scrolls,
And dares me, line on line, to compass higher goals.

The bridge that led across is worn by former strain,
With inlaid hollows, where the soul-marks groove and grain --
A telltale struggle pitting both my heart and brain.

Ambition's ramparts echo a final bugle note --
Elation whips beyond her leashing castle-moat --
Achievement's silver cry vibrates my tongue, my throat.
