VULTURES by GHALIB IBN RIBAH AL-HAJJAM

First Line: THE DEAD LIE STREWN ABOUT
Last Line: WITH HENNA THEIR WHITE HAIR.

The dead lie strewn about
Like stones; the vultures dart
To pluck their vitals out
And rend their ribs apart.

All crimson with the meal,
They look as though they were
Old women, who aneal
With henna their white hair.
