THE UNSCARRED FIGHTER REMEMBERS FRANCE by KENNETH SLADE ALLING

First Line: THAT AMAZING HOLIDAY
Last Line: STANDING BY AN OPEN GRAVE.
Subject(s): FRANCE; SOLDIERS;

That amazing holiday:
Wine and brotherhood and passion,
Paradisal in its way,
Elemental in its fashion.

Those of you that must come after,
Will not know this blithe and brave
Thing we met with vivid laughter,
Standing by an open grave.
