POEM FOR PICTURE: TO AN OIL PAINTING BY WINSLOW HOMER (DRIFTWOOD) by FRANK ANKENBRAND JR.

First Line: WATER OF SEA-GREEN
Last Line: IT ONE TIME KNEW IN ITS LOST YOUTH.
Subject(s): DRIFTWOOD; HOMER, WINSLOW (1836-1910); PAINTINGS & PAINTERS;

Water of sea-green,
Lift up your white fingers of sea-foam
And cast this broken mast upon the shore.
It was once, you know,
One of a fleet that made
A dense forest upon your watery hills.
And now in tenderness,
You cast it upon the rocky shores
It one time knew in its lost youth.
