An alchemy of sunset weaving amethystine gold On shadowed laces, dripping splendour from an unknown weight Of gems inset and girt across the armoured front of night; Till dawn from out beyond the feathered distances lets fold On fold of molten rose unfurl like wings upon a state Of worship -- being Beauty, veiled to guard herself from sight. And all the glamorous perfumes on the air, And all the clamorous voices on the dark, Faint into keener sweetness; from the lair Dry lips lift, holden parted, as with stark Thirst in thrall to Beauty's breathing grace, Famine before fulfillment lighting space. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A CELEBRATION by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS RABBI BEN EZRA by ROBERT BROWNING ELAINE by EDNA ST.
