ARCHEANASSA by ASCLEPIADES OF SAMOS

First Line: ARCHEANASSA LIETH HERE
Last Line: THROUGH WHAT A FIRE YOU PASSED!
Subject(s): COURTESANS; GRAVES; TOMBS; TOMBSTONES;

ARCHEANASSA lieth here
The courtesan from Colophon,
Whose wrinkled cheeks and sere
Were still sweet Eros' throne.

Ah! lovers who in bygone time
Gathered the buds unfolding fast
Of that fresh vernal prime,
Through what a fire you passed!
