FROM AN OFFICE WINDOW by FRANCES M. BALLARD

First Line: THE TULIP BED IS FLAMING IN THE SQUARE
Last Line: THAN IN THIS HIGH TOWER WHERE I STAND.
Subject(s): ALIENATION (SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY); FLOWERS; OFFICE WORK; ESTRANGEMENT; OUTCASTS;

The tulip bed is flaming in the square,
Crimson and lovely against the dim, green trees;
The yellow sunlight over it
Makes a picture like an old Dutch print.

If I could find a little peace
Away from clatter and the click of keys --
Where I could have the cool earth close to me,
I might find Thee also nearer
Than in this high tower where I stand.
