Delmarva, the Western Eden, Between thy sheltering Bays! Wherever thy children wander, There do they sing thy praise; The Saga of roadside orchards, Of the fields of amber grain, The murmur of wind in the pines, The scent of summer rain. A song to their Western Eden With its kindly cordial ways, To the Land of the Tidal Rivers, To the Land between the Bays. Fair Land of the Tidal Rivers, Thy charm endures alway, The charm that holds thy children Wherever their feet may stray. Wherever the Sea Lanes lead them, Wherever the Land Roads go, Goes the lure of the misty woodlands, Of the Rivers that ebb and flow. Goes the lure of the Western Eden Where passed their childhood days, The Land of the Tidal Rivers, The Land between the Bays. They feel the spell of the white Sea Fog, Of the sun on the sandy plain, And the salty tang of the ocean breeze To call them home again. Home to the marsh-edged Rivers Where the sea tides ebb and flow, Home to the level woodlands Where the Holly and Dogwood grow. Home to their Western Eden With its glamour of childhood days, To the Land of the Tidal Rivers, To the Land between the Bays. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OF THE MEAN AND SURE ESTATE by THOMAS WYATT THE FOREST MAID by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT AURENG-ZEBE, OR THE GREAT MOGUL: PROLOGUE by JOHN DRYDEN DURING WIND AND RAIN by THOMAS HARDY EPITAPHS OF THE WAR, 1914-18: THE BEGINNER by RUDYARD KIPLING WAR AND WASHINGTON by JONATHAN MITCHELL SEWALL |
