Tears are within us. There is security from pain in knowing that tears are always ready. Disillusioned hearts have found that they are faithful. We learn in childhood that they will always be. At first my mother used to say, "How steady!" Tears are within us; it is a mystery. Child heart, child heart, your ever lavish weeping troubles me, as your tears profusely pour to every comer, without fear that the last may be tarnishedthough that, indeed, be worth the keeping. It is not flowers, it is not the summer sky that so tenderly consoles us; it is they. They knew us and they comforted us as children. They are within us, watchful, ever by. And the tears weep also, as they flow away. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE RIVER OF LIFE by THOMAS CAMPBELL MATRIMONIAL MELODIES: 2.
