THE PRICE by EMMA J. BEASLEY

First Line: I PAINTED A PICTURE IN GLADNESS
Last Line: WAS THE BLOOD FROM A BROKEN HEART.
Subject(s): BEAUTY; HEARTS; PAINTINGS & PAINTERS;

I painted a picture in gladness
And goodly it looked to me,
But the beauty in it that thrilled me,
Alas! the world could not see.

I painted a picture in sadness
And the whole world called it art,
But the color I used to paint it
Was the blood from a broken heart.
