THE VIPER by HILAIRE BELLOC

Poet Analysis

First Line: YET ANOTHER GREAT TRUTH I RECORD IN MY VERSE
Last Line: BUT AFTER THE SECOND YOU DIE.
Subject(s): SNAKES; SERPENTS; VIPERS;

Yet another great truth I record in my verse,
That some Vipers are venomous, some the reverse;
A fact you may prove if you try,
By procuring two Vipers, and letting them bite;
With the @3first@1 you are only the worse for a fright.
But after the @3second@1 you die.
