FIRST NIGHT-FLIGHT by MARGARET BODEN

First Line: SPACE INCONCEIVABLE
Last Line: GAILY, TO DIE.
Subject(s): AIR TRAVEL;

Space inconceivable,
Darkest of night;
Pace unbelievable,
Time in close flight,
Static, arrested
In this tiny sphere,
Rush uncontested
Toward a light-year.

Hurtling forward,
Obstacles none;
Ceaselessly onward,
Boundaries gone.
Utterly helpless
Moments of fear,
Arrowing swiftness,
Elation too near.

Above and below,
Pin points of light --
Should choice come now,
Which seems more bright?
Mount upward dizzily,
Forever fly;
Shoot downward crazily,
Gaily, to die.
