MEMORIES by MINNIE MCKINNON BOGGS

First Line: MORE FRAGRANT SEEMS THE OLEANDER BLOOM
Last Line: OF SMILING LIPS THAT MOCK A HEART THAT SIGHS.
Subject(s): OLEANDERS;

More fragrant seems the oleander bloom
When dusky shadows with the moonbeams meet.
When snowy lilies shed their soft perfume
Come happy memories and bittersweet.

What memories can hover round a flower
Till one forgets the pleasure that it gave.
The jasmine fragrance has a haunting power,
Breathes romance and recalls an open grave.

A fading rose can strangely cast its spell,
And holds its glamour where it proudly lies.
If flowers could speak, the crimson rose might tell
Of smiling lips that mock a heart that sighs.
