Through all the ages Imagery has been the off-spring Of creative urge. Prehistoric man mingled earths Of different hues to put on cave walls To satisfy this urge. To history ancient tribes bequeath The creative story of the hunt; Done in calcined bile, blood of oxen, And crushed lapis lazuli. Masters fashioned Medieval art; They blended colors by cryptic formulae, Invoking incantations over paints To give each a hidden meaning. Modern art struggles for rhythm of design In obedience to this mysterious urge. Every age is given Nature's palette With all colors spread To depict period images upon Life's canvas. This is but a gesture ... Creative urge is everlasting. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PICTURE (VENUS RECLINING) by EZRA POUND THE SILLER CROUN by SUSANNA BLAMIRE A TOAST TO OUR NATIVE LAND by ROBERT BRIDGES (1858-1941) PREPARATORY MEDITATIONS, 1ST SERIES: 1 by EDWARD TAYLOR INSCRIPTIONS: 8 by MARK AKENSIDE A SONNET.
