TO W.A. AND H.H. ON THEIR DEPARTURE TO EUROPE by WILLIAM STANLEY BRAITHWAITE

First Line: GOOD-BYE, AND MAY YOUR JOURNEY BE
Last Line: AND BRING YOU SAFELY O'ER THE DEEP.
Subject(s): SEA VOYAGES;

On their Departure to Europe
GOOD-BYE, and may your journey be
Through nights with pleasant stars above,
And may your days upon the sea
Your souls with wonder fill and move.
By night the lyric-light of stars,
By day the pulsing tidal wars.
And may you safely reach the port
Where sweet the old-world dreams repose
In garden, vale, and palace-court,
Where long ago the sounds arose
Of feudal strife -- and song took wing --
When men were brave, and Love was King.
And when you shall have made your stay
Through summer-moons that filled and waned,
May westward autumn lead your way
Untroubled, fill your home is gained.
So may propitious fortune keep
And bring you safely o'er the deep.
