SPRING'S WOOING by NELLIE BRISTOW

First Line: SPRING SMILED THIS MORNING
Last Line: SPRING MUST PASS.
Subject(s): SPRING;

@3February@1
Spring smiled this morning
Through a windowpane,
And away went capering.
I chased her in vain
Some toll to take,
And found yellow jonquils
In her wake.

@3March@1
Spring woke me from slumber
With a breathy sigh
That brushed my cheek
As she frisked by.
I wondered just
What her gift would be --
'Twas a blustery gust.

@3April@1
Spring kissed my lips today
And wept in rapture;
While she laughed at her tears
I made sure her capture.
Upon the warm earth's breast
The sparkling drops fell greenly.
Spring was gay dressed.

@3May@1
Spring held in warm embrace
Offers sweet flowers,
Travail of sun and wind
And gentle showers.
Tender farewell, alas!
Summer's hot breath comes,
Spring must pass.
