WHOSE HAND RESTRAIN? by LINDA BARNES BRYAN

First Line: IS THERE NO MEMORY HIDDEN DEEP
Last Line: WHOSE HAND RESTRAIN THE COILING WHIPS?
Subject(s): WOMEN;

Is there no memory hidden deep
Within the gaunt uncaring years
Can stay the permeating seep
Of gall distilled in bitter tears?

Was no hour born of loveliness,
Of fair accomplishment or gain,
To bar forever tides that press
Upon the graying flats of pain?

To what avail do women sorrow,
Implore the past with patient lips?
What god will guarantee tomorrow?
Whose hand restrain the coiling whips?
