LIKE CLEAR MUSIC by RICHARD EUGENE BURTON

First Line: LONG-BURIED WOMEN, YE ARISE FOR ME
Last Line: AND DO BUT FRESHEN WITH THE FALL OF YEARS.
Subject(s): LIFE; MUSIC & MUSICIANS; TEARS; WOMEN;

LONG-BURIED women, ye arise for me
With more of Life and Life's reality
Than all the living whom I see and touch:
Sappho and Helen, Joan who died for France,
And that Scotch queen with magic in her glance;
And, like clear music out of ancientry,
Rizpah and Ruth, and Mary who loved much. --
A text you are for man's delights and tears,
And do but freshen with the fall of years.
