BIRD MINSTRELS by GRACE E. BUSH

First Line: WITHIN THE DARK AND SILENT VOID OF NIGHT
Last Line: UP THE GLAD HILLS OF MORNING, CAME THE LIGHT!
Subject(s): BIRDS;

Within the dark and silent void of night
I heard a bird voice call,
Thrilling and bright.
How dauntlessly the tiny carol rang,
The very voice of Faith and Joy made real!
And then—oh, hark! across the dark
Another answered it; and yet another,
Each vying with his brother
To send a sweeter note
From out his unseen throat:
"Rejoice! at last, at last,
Dawn comes, and Night is past!"
And, lo, upon my sight,
Brighter and yet more bright,
Up the glad hills of Morning, came the Light!
