COURAGE REGAINED by BERTHA TODD CAMPBELL

First Line: A STORM HAS DAMAGED THE CORN CROP
Last Line: I AM AT PEACE.
Subject(s): HOPE; OPTIMISM;

A storm has damaged the corn crop,
A drought is scorching the hay,
A payment is due on the homestead, --
I try to pray.

Defeated I walk in the twilight,
When lilting music is heard,
Above my head in the willows:
A mocking-bird.

One wing hangs limp and broken,
All night his song does not cease;
New courage comes with the morning --
I am at peace.
