AN OCTAVE by PATRICK CAREY

First Line: I BLUSH, BUT MUST OBEY. YOU'LL HAVE IT SO
Last Line: NOT FOR THEIR WORTH, BUT MERELY THROUGH YOUR GRACE.
Subject(s): MAN-WOMAN RELATIONSHIPS;

MADAME,
I blush, but must obey. You'll have it so;
And one such word of yours, stops all excuse:
Yet (pray) be sure that you let others know
How you, not pride, did me to this induce;
Else, when to any these harsh rimes you show,
They'll suffer many a flout; I, much abuse:
Since 'tis acknowledg'd that they here have place,
Not for their worth, but merely through your grace.
