SONGS OF THE SEA CHILDREN: 80 by BLISS CARMAN

First Line: OUT OF THE DUST THAT BORE THEE
Last Line: WAS HALF SO DEAR AS THOU?
Subject(s): LOVE;

Out of the dust that bore thee,
What wonder walking came, --
What beauty like blown grasses,
What ardour like still flame!
What patience of the mountains,
What yearning of the sea,
What far eternal impulse
Endowed the world with thee?
A reed within the river,
A leaf upon the bough,
What breath of April ever
Was half so dear as thou?
