TOWARDS DEMOCRACY: PART 3. THE STONE-CUTTER by EDWARD CARPENTER

First Line: AND MEN TO-DAY - ARE THEY NOT ALWAYS RUNNING ABOUT TO DO SOMETHING
Last Line: EMERGE TIME AFTER TIME FROM THE HEART OF THE PEOPLE.
Subject(s): CARPENTERS; LABOR & LABORERS; STONE-CUTTING; WORK; WORKERS;

"AND men to-day—are they not always running about to do something?
But He says: @3I have finished the work that Thou gavest me to do."@1
Thus to me the stone-cutter, with chisel and mallet in hand all the while
dishing out a sump-cover,
Standing out there in the Sun, in the light July breeze so cool,
Spoke the words of Christ—the old indestructible words—which all
down the ages,
Whether in the mouth of stone-cutter or carpenter,
Emerge time after time from the heart of the people.
