NEW ENGLAND by BETTIE MARGOT CASSIE

First Line: SMUG LITTLE TOWNS
Last Line: "I DO NOT CHOOSE TO RUN."
Subject(s): COOLIDGE, CALVIN (1872-1933); NEW ENGLAND;

NEW ENGLAND—
Smug little towns,
Quaint old villages
Mountain-locked in
Fertile valleys.

NEW ENGLAND—
The scholar
In cap and gown,
Culture—
With a nasal twang.

NEW ENGLAND—
The Puritan maid
With a wanton's grace
And eyes that belie
Her proud, cool mein.

NEW ENGLAND—
Whose favorite son
Made history with
Six laconic words—
"I do not choose to run."
